A Gift...

By: Gunnsmith

 Gday and

good thoughts.... Garman Sir.

Many thanks for the kind words on my writing... Hmmm, and on the subject of why I keep plugging away at the keyboard.... perhaps I should relate something that took place about a year ago... maybe I already talked about it here...... but here goes..

I had at the time  recently been sick.. fairly so I would say, with an intestinal virus. .that had eaten a few holes in my stomach lining and got the rest of my guts in a pretty bad state.... and this was more or less the end of a downward spiral that my health had taken for about a year before that ......

and having gone to work and been assigned some loader work at  a gravel pit in the woods...and  working alone there for some time... and then   upon taking a lunch break.. began to walk around the area.. and at some point asking the Gods, and Odinn in particular... to help me get back on the "path to health and strength"....

and as these thing sometimes happen... I sensed the presence of the Valfather standing to my right.. about 10 feet tall, and arranged with some kind of war harness on...

and since I had asked this same boon a number of times already... he said a little perturbed...

"Are you not NOW on the path to health and strength"?.....

Well, you wouldn't have known that by me and the way I was feeling.... and so I was a little ashamed for having asked for the tenth time some help with the health problems.. and so in a small voice I apologized and tried to communicate that there was no way for  me  knowing exactly that I was indeed working towards some sort of cure or recovery and therefore felt the need to ask again.

and then after a few minutes I got up the gumption, as it were to ask for one more boon.. and that was for a drink of the mead of poetry so that I could write things that would be a  help to our Folk.. to come together and find  their way back home.

Well, I believe he nodded or agreed but I didn't catch the word exactly.. but he did say... " Go with.".....and I didn't catch the name... but it may have been Kvasir or something like that.... "and he will give it to you"

and this  was a normal sized being, a little shorter than I.... perhaps an Elf..  and so I followed him to this low ceiling.. room or cellar..  where there were several very large pot bellied ceramic urns or Jars....

and there he dipped and handed me a very small.. about  the size of a small toothpick holder .. stone cup..  and seeing my look of surprise.... he said... "any more than this  for a mortal could cause madness"

So that was my experiance and its  right in the non-logical catagory, or UPG......and this is not a common thing..., not  for  me at any rate ..not at all .... and maybe its because I was still pretty sick.. .but fighting it you know.. to keep going and get to work everyday... which I did...

but  now after a year I can say... "Yes, I was indeed on the path to health and stregnth".... not altogether there yet, but much improved to the point where I can  now see the top of the hill as it were....

So that seems verified.... and I guess its yet  to determine if the second part has had the desired effect ... .. to be of some help or make  a small contribution... to our Folk     in the hope  of  them  finding their way back home.....

"A gift demands a gift".... hmmm... yeah.

and at least one hopes that their efforts are worth a read.. anyway.....

Best Regards, and thanks again.
