Expectations...

It seems to me that the people in the reawakening often have extremely high expectations of their fellow travelers, as it were. So high, in fact, that they often have a hard time getting along with someone who may not share their exact vision of things. Seems people are looking for the perfect friend, wise counselor, role model, and King,....pretty much .. everything. And while we should have high ideals, of this there is no doubt... the thought comes to me that a tribe is, and never was, a group of perfect people. A family very seldom if ever is either. You have to accept your family for what they are, and I think a tribe is like that too...

An I'm not making a case for mediocrity either, just common sense and observation that this "aint" a perfect world and there aint no perfect people.... just people, that's all. We are all on a learning curve, and sometimes the magic works, and sometimes it doesn't...

I think we are right in expecting a reasonable seriousness.. a certain dedication if you will... and since we have all read the Havamal numerous times... its reasonable to expect people to make  a half assed stab at living by it, these are the words of Odhinn, after all. There are some charges there that a person is the better for.. should they apply them....

and there are others that we should take much more seriously I think...especially in regard to "foes" that threaten the very existence of family, folk and people.

I was struck by the comments made by  people on an internet list about each other after they had gotten together for a moot a few years ago. Seems not many of them were the epitome of the proverbial "Viking".... 6 and a half to 7 feet tall... and looking like Hulk Hogan..... not.

Yep, one of the guys had to admit he was..... gasp... only  five foot nine. Some other guy was  "so thin"...and the thought was flyin around on a few.. "more bacon on em than a blot hog"

There is a saying that home is the place that when you go there, they HAVE to take you in. A family is like that too, and so is a Folk. Often, a family is the most critical, demanding, and least supportive place where one can go, and this is also true of a Folk....

and a tribe... and even a people.

There's a certain point when we look at people who really seem to be extreme.... and realize that they are illustrating a small part of something that we have in our selves, and that makes us look at it. Its that "real motorcycle" that as Robert Persig said...

we are working on," that is yourself."

there is a little bit of everybody... IN everybody.... baby, child, teen, man/woman. And this is especially true of a family, Clan or folk, and People too.. going all the way up to the human race for that matter.

Its all a learning curve.. and we get to certain steps and levels at different times in our lives.

The bottom line to this whole thing seems to me the saying and the understanding of a single sentence...

"We are all here together"...... the Gods, Alfar, and all the ancestors, who looked, thought, and often felt, just like us.... because they are us, and we are them.. and all our family's, extended family's... Folk and people too.
